KUCHING, March 17: A 30-year-old local man suspected of involvement in an attempted kidnapping of an 8-year old girl has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his next court hearing.

Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the Kuching Court has ordered the man to be evaluated after he was charged under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abducting and Section 511 of the same act.

“The case will be mentioned again on April 22, after the medical report is received,” he said in a statement today.

On the same note, Ahsmon said the suspect was arrested by police following a public tip-off for attempting to kidnap a 8-year old girl who was playing outside her house in a housing area along Jalan Airport on March 11, at 6.55pm.

He said police also seized a Perodua Bezza which was used by the suspect during the incident.

“Initial investigation found that the suspect is a person with disability (OKU) card holder who has undergone treatment at Sarawak General Hospital since 2001.

“The suspect also does not have any previous criminal record,” he added.

On March 16, a Facebook user made a post sharing his experiences of the incident that occurred on March 11, where his daughter, who was playing outside their house with five others children, was forced into the front passenger side and locked inside the vehicle that used by the suspect.

According to the post, he was alerted by a distress call from his other daughter who was also playing outside.

With the help of his neighbours, they managed to stop the suspect from driving off, and rescued the girl from the vehicle. — DayakDaily
