BELAGA, June 17: Three individuals have been rescued while two others remain missing after a boat sank in a river near Rh Apan Long Menjawah here yesterday evening (June 16).
According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call regarding the incident at 4.33pm and promptly deployed a team of firefighters from Belaga Fire Station (BBP) to the location.
Based on the report from the operation commander, the boat was ferrying five people comprising a boat operator and four co-workers from a private company.
The four co-workers were believed to have rented the boat to go sight-seeing near Jeram Menjawah Belaga, accompanied by the driver who is a resident of Rh Apan.
“During the incident, the boat sank due to the strong current in the Menjawah River.
“The boat driver tried to save all the passengers but two passengers were swept away by the strong current,” the report said.
The two missing persons were identified as Balavishnu Permaloo, 36, and Rhuban Apparoo, 30. Both of them hail from Kedah.
The search and rescue (SAR) operation was postponed at 6.30pm yesterday and resumed today. — DayakDaily
