3 men arrested for rioting at Sibu Night Market

SIBU, July 23: Three men have been arrested for causing a riot at the night market last night.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said his team received a report regarding the incident, which went viral on social media on July 22 around 8.46pm, involving several individuals.

According to him, the incident began when a suspect, who was in a drunken state, caused chaos and damaged the stalls of traders at the scene.

“Several individuals who were at the scene hit the suspect until he was injured,” he said.

Acting on information received, a 31-year-old Indonesian man involved in the incident was subsequently arrested.

This was followed by the detention of two local men, aged 31 and 35.

“The three suspects have no past criminal records,” Zulkipli stated. “All suspects will be remanded for further investigation.”

He added that the police are still trying to track down another suspect who is still at large.

The case is being investigated under Section 427/147 of the Penal Code. — DayakDaily
