3 deaths, 577 new cases due to Covid-19 in Sarawak today

KUCHING, June 23: Sarawak recorded three deaths from Covid-19, along with 577 new cases today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement disclosed that the cumulative death toll in the state now stands at 392, while the total number of positive cases at 61,566.

An 80-year-old man from Pakan who tested positive on June 20 had died at the Sarikei hospital. He suffered comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney failure.

At the same hospital, a 74-year-old woman from Sarikei succumbed to the virus after she tested positive on June 18. She had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidemia as well as chronic lung and heart disease.

In Sibu, a 52-year-old man from Selangau died at the Sibu hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 on May 28. He suffered health issues including high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney failure.

Meanwhile, of the 577 new cases, 300 or 50.99 percent were detected in five districts namely Kuching, Pakan, Bintulu, Kanowit and Meradong.

Kuching once again topped the list at 145, followed by Pakan (45), Bintulu (40), Kanowit (39), Meradong (31), Tatau (30), Sibu (27), Miri (26), Kapit (22), Lundu (19), Sri Aman (17), Serian (17) and Mukah (15).

Tebedu and Sarikei had 14 cases each; Bau (13); Pusa and Song each with eight cases; Subis (7); Selangau and Samarahan with six cases each; Kabong (5); Matu, Asajaya and Julau with four cases each; Telang Usan (3); Simunjan and Bukit Mabong each with two cases; while Betong, Sebauh, Lawas and Lubok Antu recorded one case each.

Only 56 of these cases have showed signs and experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 infection during screening.

SDMC also reported 609 discharged cases, bringing the cumulative recoveries to 50,766 people (82.46 percent) out of the total positive cases in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
