KUCHING,May 26: The Bung Sadung Climbathon Challenge is back for the second year following positive response and is set to take place on Sept 15.
The climbathon is organised by Kampung Bunga’s development and security committee and the village’s Youth, Sports and Recreation bureau.
This year’s climbathon has four categories.
The various categories and registration fees are: 15KM Men Open (RM80), 15KM Women Open (RM80), 6KM Men Veteran for 40-years-old and above (RM70), 6KM Women Veteran for 40-years-old and above (RM70), 6KM Boy Junior for 13 to 17-years-old (RM40), 6KM Girl’s Junior for 13-to-17 years old and above (RM40) and 3KM Fun Hike (RM50).
In a statement, the event organiser said that a total of RM6,000 in cash prizes and trophies will be given away to the top finishers and all climbers will also receive a finisher’s medal upon completion of the climb.
The starting and finishing point of the climbathon to Mount Sadung will be at Kampung Bunga in the Serian Division.
Mount Sadung, some 50km from Kuching city, is considered an inherited home reserve for the local Bukar Bidayuhs from the 26 villages surrounding the mountain.
The mountain holds a heritage settlement site believed to be the ancestral ground for the Bukar Bidayuhs dating back to the Brooke era.
The climbathon aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle as well as to instill and inculcate a proactive attitude and stewardship towards the environment. It also seeks to foster unity among the communities in the area through this activity.
The event will also feature an exhibition area and refreshment booth.
All participants are very much welcome to discover one of Bukar Sadung’s heritage nature trails by joining the Bung Sadung 2019 Climbathon Challenge this September.
