29yo man nabbed with RM80,000 worth of contraband cigarettes in Muara Tabuan factory raid

Kuching police arrested a man and seized RM80,000 worth of contraband cigarettes at Muara Tabuan on Feb 19, 2024.

KUCHING, Feb 20: A 29-year-old local man was arrested and 37 boxes of contraband cigarettes from various brands estimated at RM80,000 in value, were seized, at a factory near Muara Tabuan yesterday.

Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah stated that the police raided the premises on Monday (Feb 19) based on intelligence and public information.

“A 29-year-old local man was arrested and we confiscated 37 boxes of cigarettes of various brands worth RM80,000.


“The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(D) of the Customs Act 1967,” he said in a statement.

If convicted, offenders face a potential imprisonment term ranging from six months to five years, along with a fine of up to RM100,000.

The suspect will be remanded at the Kuching Magistrates Court today to facilitate further investigation. — DayakDaily
