KUCHING, July 21: A new community cluster involving a longhouse at Sungai Sebatu, Ulu Mador in Meradong has emerged with 33 Covid-19 cases confirmed so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the Sungai Sebatu Cluster was centred on a longhouse which was placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“A total of 99 individuals were screened where 33 cases tested positive including the index case, 61 individuals tested negative and five more samples are awaiting laboratory testing,” it reported in a statement today.

SDMC also said among the 33 confirmed cases in this cluster to-date, 32 of them were recorded today and this accounted for almost all of the overall 33 new cases reported in Meradong district today.

The committee gave assurance that all Covid-19 patients have been admitted into Sarikei Hospital and the local Low-risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRC) for isolation and treatment purposes.

Meanwhile, Sarawak also registered two other new clusters today, namely the Jalan Demak Laut Cluster in Kuching and Balai Ringin Melayu Cluster in Serian.

At the same time, the Jalan Kuala Tatau Cluster in Tatau was declared ended today, thus leaving the State with 93 active clusters. — DayakDaily
