The rescue team arrived at the scene at 2.40pm after travelling to the location using an EMRS vehicle and later a PDRM four-wheel-drive vehicle due to the difficult access route that was unsuitable for Bomba fire engine.

Upon arrival, rescuers confirmed that the accident involved a 10-tonne lorry which had veered off the road and plunged approximately 40 metres into a ravine with a near-vertical 90-degree slope.

A search and assessment of the scene found one victim unconscious and lying in the river area below the ravine. Firefighters used a stretcher to retrieve the victim and carry him back up to the roadside.

The victim, identified as the lorry attendant, was later confirmed dead.

The lorry driver, aged 34, was reported to have survived the crash but sustained injuries. He was transported to Kapit Hospital by nearby longhouse residents before the arrival of Bomba team.

The rescue operation was brought under control at 2.50pm and concluded at 3.04pm. The deceased victim was handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
