KUCHING, March 10: A total of 274 land titles issued under Section 18 of the State Land Code were handed over to 189 landowners in Song district from Mukah, Katibas, Sipan, Sesawa and Telok Jambu, and Song.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, 122 Temporary Occupation Licences (TOLs) were also issued to the recipients at the Song Phase 1 Resettlement Scheme, the Song Phase II Resettlement Scheme (Group II), as well as the Song Phase II Village Expansion Scheme (Group II).

The land titles and TOLs were handed over during a ceremony on Wednesday (March 9).

Speaking during the ceremony, Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development Datu Len Talif Salleh said the Sarawak government always recognises and defends the people’s rights to their Native Customary Rights (NCR) land if the claim is valid according to the law.

He said this is shown through the issuance of land title letters under Section 18 of the State Land Code to the recipients whose NCR land had been surveyed.

“Efforts to survey the NCR land has been implemented since 1960, and a new survey initiative was introduced in 2010 to further accelerate the effective land survey rate,” he said.

He added that as of Feb 2022, a total of 1,023,292 hectares of land was measured while 793,831 hectares have been gazetted.

Also present were Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan and Song district officer Jackline August. — DayakDaily
