Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian

KUCHING, April 26: Residential holdings with annual assessment rates of RM400 and above will receive a 25 per cent discount this year.

Ministry for Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian in a press statement today revealed the discounts will benefit 185,819 holdings including commercial and industrial holdings.

He added the due date for the payment of assessment rates for the first half of 2020 has been extended to October 31 from May 31.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that residential holdings with annual assessment rates of RM400 and below will continue to receive 30 to 100 per cent discount as per the 2016 reduction of assessment rates.

Rate payers may pay the assessment rates online through Sarawak Pay or with PayBills Malaysia.

Dr Sim said the poor and those living under the poverty index and receiving social welfare aid may apply for remission of rates from their respective councils.

As for those who have paid their assessment rates in full, the discount will be credited in their next bill.

In the meantime, Dr Sim added the discounts on assessment rates is among the incentives provided by the state government under Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) which was announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg last month.

It is aimed at reducing the financial burden of Sarawakians arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. — DayakDaily
