24 trainees, residents of a govt institution test positive for Covid-19, sparking Batu 13 Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster

KUCHING, Sept 22: A total of 24 trainees and residents at a government institution at 13th Mile Jalan Puncak Borneo here have tested positive for Covid-19 triggering a new cluster dubbed the Batu 13 Jalan Puncak Borneo Cluster.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 47 individuals have been swabbed so far, and 23 people have tested negative.


SDMC said the Covid-19 patients have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and the Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for the treatment.

Meanwhile, six Covid-19 clusters namely the Sebayur Cluster in Samarahan, Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster in Kuching, Jalan Pisang Raja Cluster in Bintulu, Jalan Akses Cluster in Sri Aman, Batu 25 Jalan Kuching-Serian in Serian and Nanga Puti Cluster in Tatau have been declared as ended.

Thus, there are presently 135 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak, with eight clusters reporting 42 new cases today.

The Bungey 2 Cluster, which was triggered following a wedding ceremony in Betong, had the highest number of new cases at 18.

This was followed by the Mapu Cluster in Tebedu with eight new cases, Batu 13 Jalan Puncak Borneo (5), Kampung Sikog Cluster (5) and Duras Cluster (3).

The KM20 Jalan Betong Cluster, Opar Cluster and Pinang Jawa Cluster reported one new case each. — DayakDaily
