KUCHING, Aug 19: A 22-year-old local woman has been arrested by police in relation to an abandoned baby girl found in Moyan Square.
Padawan district police acting police DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said the suspect, believed to be the mother of the baby girl, was arrested by police personnel from Batu Kawah police station at 11.20am yesterday (Aug 18).
“The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, where offenders may be jailed for a term which may extend to seven years or a fine or both,” he said.
He added that police are also in contact with the Sarawak Social Welfare Department for further action.
“I advise the public to not speculate on this to ensure a smooth investigation,” he said.
Yesterday, a baby girl was found alive near a dumpster at Moyan Square in Batu Kawa by waste collection workers at 6.30am. — DayakDaily
