22nd Sarawak Int’l Junior Golf Championship 2022 sees fresh faces competing for honours

MIRI, Nov 28: The competition is expected to be stiff among the new faces vying for honours in the Sarawak Premier Cup of the 22nd Sarawak International Junior Golf Championship 2022 which will tee off tomorrow (Nov 29) at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club here.

According to a statement from the organiser Sarawak Golf Association, a total of 58 boys and 46 girls from eight different countries including host Malaysia, are competing in this yearā€™s event after a two-year hiatus.

The registration for the respective categories was held today and the majority of entries are for the Boys and Girls A category with 35 participants while the C category will feature 31 participants.


The encouraging response for the 12-years-old and under category had shown a notable number of new young golfers competing for the first time on Sarawakā€™s shores especially in Miri.

This yearā€™s event is opened to local and international junior amateur golfers who are competing in four different categories namely category A (ages 15 to 17), B (ages 13 to 14), C (ages 12 and under) and special category (18 to 21-years-old).

The entries received for this yearā€™s event came from Pakistan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and host Malaysia represented by juniors from Sabah and Sarawak.

The Malaysia Ladies Golf Association (MALGA) had also nominated four of their juniors to compete in Girlsā€™ Special, A and C categories in the three-day event.

The MALGA juniors are Alya Afza Hazari (category A), Pang Hee Jie (special category), Sohinya Chandra Mohan (category A) and Adrianna Prewa Sim (category C) with Dr Noor Aziah as their team manager.

This yearā€™s event is supported by the Sarawak government through Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) and sanctioned by Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) and World Amateur Golf Ranking while Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club is the official venue. ā€” DayakDaily
