KUCHING, Feb 17: Four two-storey houses at Lorong 10, Kampung Tabuan Dayak here, were destroyed in a fire last night (Feb 16), leaving 22 individuals homeless.
According to a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 9.01pm, and firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya were deployed with assistance provided by the Batu Lintang station.
In addition to firefighting efforts, Bomba also contacted Sarawak Energy to cut off electricity supply and the Kuching Water Board to increase water pressure to aid in putting out the fire.
The report also noted that Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng was also present at the scene.
No casualties were reported in the incident, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause and losses incurred. It was also noted that the victims rented all four houses.
All 22 victims—consisting of 18 adults and four children—are temporarily seeking shelter at the All Saint’s Church at Jalan Tabuan Jaya.
