KUCHING, March 11: A 21-year-old man who performed a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt on a motorcycle along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob was arrested by police during the ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ crackdown recently.
Kuching District Deputy Police Chief SUPT Merbin Lisa stated that the individual is being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.
During the integrated operation conducted by the Kuching District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, supported by its Crime Investigation Division, from March 8 to 11, he said a total of 21 motorcycles were seized for various offences under Section 60 (1) of the RTA 1987.
The operation, spanning from 9pm to 5am, covered areas including Masja, Jalan Astana, Jalan Datuk Patinggi Tun Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin, and Jalan Datuk Patinggi Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakob.
“Throughout the operation, 154 summonses were issued for various offences.
“The most common violations included riding without a side mirror (34 summonses), improper registration plate numbers (26 summonses), vehicle structure or equipment modifications (20 summonses), exhaust modifications (18 summonses), driving without a license (15 summonses), and various other traffic infractions,” he said in a statement today.
The police checked 190 motorcycles and 215 individuals during the operation.
Merbin emphasised the commitment of law enforcement to continue conducting checks to apprehend drivers and riders committing traffic offences in an effort to curb street hooliganism and reduce accident rates, especially within the Kuching District. — DayakDaily
