KUCHING, June 9: A 20-year-old woman tragically drowned while bathing at Wong Ruan Waterfall in Ulu Sarikei earlier today, while her younger friend survived the incident.
Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a distress call regarding the incident at 4.15pm and promptly dispatched a team led by PBK II TBK I Alffian Sahmat to the location.
According to the report, the victim, Nur Afiqah Jemat, had gone to the waterfall with her 14-year-old friend for a swim when the incident occurred.
The victim was believed to have drowned while swimming, prompting her friend to call for help from nearby villagers.
Emergency services, including the police and the Fire and Rescue Department, were immediately notified.

The operation commander said that Bomba personnel arrived at the scene at 4.48pm and confirmed that two individuals had been involved in the incident. One of them, Nurellysa, was successfully rescued while Nur Afiqah was found drowned at approximately 3.45pm before Bomba arrived.
At 6.05pm, police personnel arrived at the scene, followed by a medical team from the Ministry of Health (KKM) at 6.13pm, who officially confirmed the victim’s death.
The body was later handed over to the police and transported using a police truck for further action at 6.20pm. – DayakDaily
