KUCHING, Jan 22:  A total of 20 medical staff in the Miri Hospital have been confirmed to be Covid-19 positive today.

This is disclosed by Sarawak Health Director Dr Chin Zin Hing in a press conference updating Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

“As of today, we actually have 20 staff in Miri Hospital who have been confirmed positive of Covid-19.  The majority of them are from the Emergency Department,” said Dr Chin.

He said following the confirmation of the positive Covid-19 status of these medical staff, contact tracing had been carried out, resulting in the quarantine of close to 200 hospital staff.

To minimise the spread, the Health Department is now controlling the number of people going to the hospital.

He said some services in the hospital have been suspended and only the essential ones are being maintained.

As the hospital is now trying to control the number of people going to the hospital, patients appointments have been rescheduled and aatients, he said, are being given medical attention only by appointment.

Meanwhile, he gave assurance that patients may continue to have access to their medication and that the Emergency Department is still operational. — DayakDaily
