KUCHING, Aug 5: An alarming 352 positive Covid-19 cases have been detected at a village under extended lockdown at Batu 15, Jalan Kuching-Serian that has triggered the Kampung Seratau Cluster in Kuching today.
However, this is not the only Covid-19 cluster declared in Kuching as another cluster dubbed the Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster has been identified at a village, also under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), located at Bintawa, Petra Jaya here with 72 cases confirmed so far.
These two new clusters have accounted for the majority of the latest infections with 424 cases.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that a total of 1,084 individuals linked to the Kampung Seratau Cluster have been screened.
Of the number, 372 have tested negative while 360 are still awaiting lab test results.
As for Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster, a total of 125 individuals have been screened, with 53 tested negative while 10 are still awaiting lab test results.
All positive cases have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as well as the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching.
Sarawak declared five new clusters today. Of the other three clusters, one was identified at Tatau dubbed Nanga Serenggas Cluster involving a longhouse with 19 cases, and two were in Lundu named Kampung Sebat Melayu Cluster involving a village with 39 cases and Kampung Pueh Cluster involving a longhouse with 12 cases.
SDMC also declared the end of four clusters namely the Sungai Kotak Cluster in Meradong, Tanjong Lelengan Cluster in Pakan, Luteng Cluster in Telang Usan and Blimbing Cluster in Bau, after no new cases were reported in the past 28 days.
With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stood at 90, out of which 20 clusters have registered an increase in daily infections of 261 cases.
The active cluster which picked up the most new cases today is Mega Suai Cluster in Subis which involved an oil palm plantation with 160 cases, thus increasing the cluster total to 298.
The rest are the new Nanga Serenggas Cluster in Tatau (18 cases); Melikin Cluster in Serian and new Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster in Kuching (10 cases each); Jambatan Lemua Cluster in Beluru and Kampung Bunuk Cluster in Kuching (8 cases each); Kampung Haji Baki Cluster in Kuching, new Kampung Sebat Melayu Cluster in Lundu and Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster in Kuching (7 cases each); Kampung Sungai Duuh Cluster in Serian (5 cases); Kampung Quop Cluster in Kuching (3 cases); Kampung Git Cluster in Kuching, Kandis Pantu Cluster in Sri Aman and Benteng Sri Aman Cluster in Sri Aman (2 cases each); while Paon Rimu Cluster in Serian, Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Semban Cluster in Kuching, Kampung Kendaie Cluster in Lundu and Bedup Longgo Cluster in Serian has one case each. — DayakDaily
