Kuching accounts for 330 of 759 new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, Aug 5: Kuching continues to lead the Covid-19 daily toll in Sarawak, accounting for 330 out of 759 new cases reported in the State today.

Subis registered 160 new cases, the district with the second highest number of new cases today.


According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), other districts which saw double-digit case numbers were Serian (70), Samarahan (36), Sibu (23), Bau (21), Tatau (18), Kabong (17), Lundu (14) and Beluru (10).

The remaining districts with new infections included Bintulu (8), Betong (7), Miri (7), Simunjan (7), Asajaya (6), Sebauh (5), Dalat (4), Meradong (4), Sri Aman (3), Saratok (2), Selangau (2), Mukah (1), Kapit (1), Sarikei (1), Tanjung Manis (1) and Tebedu (1).

With today’s cases, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 79,522.

“Out of the 759 patients, 259 were detected following close contact screenings where 25 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 261 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where seven of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, 58 cases were from symptomatic screenings, 176 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, one was an Import-B case who came from Selangor, and another four were Import-A cases from Indonesia and Myanmar,” it said in its Covid-19 update today.

As for Covid-19 fatalities, two new cases were reported today with one each in Bintulu and Miri, raising the Covid-19 death toll for Sarawak to 466.

The victims comprised a 48-year-old female in Bintulu with diabetes and obesity and a 61-year-old male in Miri with no comorbidities and was found dead before arriving at the hospital.

Meanwhile, 313 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak. A total of 6,886 active cases remain in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
