KUCHING, Sept 13: The police have received a report on a riot which took place at approximately 1.30pm yesterday (Sept 12) in the parking lot located behind the Kanowit District Office.
Acknowledging that the video of the riot has since gone viral, Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the incident had caused two men to sustain injuries and damage to their vehicles.
“The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
“The police are actively tracking down the suspects involved in this case. The cause of this incident is still under investigation,” said Mohd Azman in a statement.
He advised the public not to take reckless action and break the law as this may lead to conviction.
The police are also seeking those with information on the incident, who are urged to contact ASP Mohd Faizal Bin Nawi at 016-8657432 or IPD Kanowit at 084-752222.
“Once convicted under Section 148 of the Penal Code, it means imprisonment for five years or a fine or both,” Mohd Azman warned.
In the first of two videos viewed by DayakDaily, a group of men with red headbands can be seen challenging and taunting the police who are standing on guard at the carpark located on the opposite end of the field.
