SIBU, Jan 31: The occupants of two houses, including a 37-year-old man with special needs, managed to evacuate to safety after their houses at Kampung Bahagia Jaya Tengah were consumed by a fire early this morning.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to an emergency at 5.18am and swiftly mobilised firefighters from the Sg Merah and Sibu Central stations to the location.
The first house suffered 80 per cent damaged, while the second house was completely burnt.
The flames also engulfed one car, one van and three motorcycles.
Fortunately, the nine residents of the first house, including a four-year-old boy, and the four residents of the second house, which included a man with special needs, were reported to be unharmed from the inferno.
Firefighters managed to control and put out the fire as well as conduct the necessary overhauling works to eliminate any potential sources of ignition before concluding the operation. — DayakDaily
