MUKAH, May 11: Two local men have been apprehended for their suspected involvement in the theft of telecommunication cables yesterday.
Mukah district police chief, DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, stated that a police team, acting on received information, conducted a raid at about 2pm yesterday in Jalan Rh Gardah, Selangau.
“The purpose of the raid was to apprehend two men believed to be stealing telecommunication cables from a newly established company,” he explained.
According to DSP Muhammad, the two suspects were preparing to depart the location in a four-wheel drive vehicle when the police team arrived.
“Upon being asked to provide evidence that they were contractors of the company, they failed to do so,” noted DSP Muhammad.
The police confiscated the vehicle, cable cutting tools, and copper cables, all valued at a total of RM61,000.
The two suspects, aged 30 and 37, are currently remanded for four days until May 16.
DSP Muhammad mentioned that both men have a history of violent crime, with one of them having prior cases related to drug abuse.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. — DayakDaily
