1,827 graduates receive scrolls at CENTEXS’ 8th convocation ceremony

KUCHING, Feb 5: A total of 1,827 graduates of Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) are receiving their scrolls at the institution’s 8th convocation ceremony beginning today until Feb 8.

Taking place at Centexs in Santubong, the ceremony today saw Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg confer the awards to 137 graduates.

Of the 1,827 graduates receiving their industry-based certificates, 1,534 are from Industry and ESG Academy (IESG), while 293 are from Digital and Green Energy Academy (DGA).

These graduates are graduating from 52 programmes out of the 84 programmes offered by CENTEXS, with focus areas in Digital, Green Energy, Oil & Gas, Electrical, Construction, Fashion Technology, Heritage, Hospitality and Tourism.

These programmes are nationally and internationally certified by industry leaders, including Schlumberger (SLB), TWI CSWIP, Huawei, EON Reality, Solarvest and others.

CENTEXS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, in his speech, said CENTEXS has trained 16,201 trainees since its inception in 2014, with 93 per cent employability as of November 2023.

“For the record, CENTEXS graduates have been working across industries in Sarawak, Malaysia and Internationally.

“Just to name a few, our alumni graduates have been employed by Schlumberger (SLB), Sarawak Metro, Sarawak Energy, PETROS, SHELLMDS, Longi, SALCRA, Dayang Enterprise Holdings Berhad, Press Metal Bintulu, Hilton, Pullman and many others,” he said.

The Convocation also saw the exchange of memoranda of understanding (MoU) between CENTEXS and Yayasan Sarawak Group (University Technology Sarawak, i-CATS University College, Kolej Laila Taib and YS International Education Sdn Bhd), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Forest Department Sarawak (FDS), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), RSK Group, SEAMEO VOCTECH, Yayasan Hasanah, Digital Nasional Berhad, Systematic Aviation Services, National Geographic, Budding Readers and Asia Pacific Professional Development Sdn Bhd and LoA with AWS and Iverson.

At the event, CENTEXS also launched its proboscis monkey mascots—PROBO and PROBEE, two special characters who encapsulate the spirit of innovation and technology excellence.

Also present during the Convocation were Sarawak Foundation director Mersal Abang Rosli and CENTEXS chief executive officer Dato Syeed Mohd Hussien Wan Abdul Rahman. — DayakDaily
