He said the collision involved two Multi-Purpose Vehicles (MPVs), a car, and two motorcycles.

“At the time of the incident, an MPV driven by a 76-year-old man was travelling from Stutong towards Kota Samarahan.

“When the MPV reached the Jalan Samarahan–Stutong Baru bypass while moving straight ahead, it suddenly lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with another MPV and a motorcycle, causing the motorcycle passenger to be thrown onto a car,” he explained in a statement today.

Another motorcycle travelling behind the MPV also collided with its rear as it could not avoid the crash.

The victim was pronounced dead at 10.11am by a medical assistant and his body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Five other victims sustained injuries to various parts of their bodies and received treatment at SGH. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Damataries added. — DayakDaily
