SIBU, Feb 28: Seventeen men aged between 19 and 75 were arrested for their alleged involvement in cockfighting yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference, acting Sibu district police chief Supt Dr Collin Babat said acting on information received, a crime investigation team went to an open space in Jalan Bukit Penyau to conduct a raid.
“When the suspects saw the police, they tried to escape but were caught,” he said.
Collin said the police team seized four live roosters, two dead ones, three cockfighting spurs, and an electronic weighing machine.
The case is being investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962.
He advised the public not to be involved in gambling as it could lead to financial and social problems. ā DayakDaily
