17 active Covid-19 clusters log 414 cases, spikes Sarawak’s daily caseload to 836

KUCHING, Aug 10: Seventeen active clusters in Sarawak racked up 414 more infections to drive a spike in the State’s daily Covid-19 caseload to a high of 836 cases today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster in Kuching added the most number of cases at 111 today to push the cluster’s total to 206.

Clusters in neigbouring villages, Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster and Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster added 26 and two cases respectively, to grow their respective total to 95 and 162 to date.

These three clusters, which were declared less than a week ago and are still under lockdown, have 186 active cases, 80 active cases and 134 active cases respectively, still receiving treatment and being isolated.

The second cluster that recorded three-digit gains in new cases is the workplace-centred Melikin Cluster in Serian which added 107 cases to bring the cluster’s total to 249, out of which 202 are active cases.

The Melikin Cluster which involved an oil palm estate along Jalan Serian-Sri Aman was declared on July 30.

A third cluster that saw an increase in the number of daily infections is the Kampung Bunuk Cluster located along Jalan Puncak Borneo in Kuching with 64 cases today. This thus pushed the cluster’s tally to 119, out of which 105 are active cases.

The Kampung Git Cluster which involved a few families from the village located along KM27, off Jalan Puncak Borneo here picked up 47 cases today to increase the cluster’s total to 81, out of which 67 are active cases.

The remaining 11 clusters which saw an increase in daily infections are Tanjung Tuang Cluster in Samarahan which added 26 more cases; Kandis Pantu Cluster in Sri Aman (25 cases); Jalan Pisang Raja Cluster in (6 cases); Kampung Sebat Melayu Cluster in Lundu, new Sessang Cluster in Kabong, and Peligong Cluster in Saratok (3 cases each); Kampung Paya Mebi Cluster in Kuching and Kampung Pandan Cluster in Lundu (2 cases each); while Bunga Rampai Cluster in Bau, Mega Suai Cluster in Subis and the new Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster in Kuching have one case each. — DayakDaily
