KUCHING, June 15: A 16-year-old Indonesian youth was fined RM10,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today for handling a gambling machine.
The teenager pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of between RM10,000 and RM100,000 for each gambling machine seized and a jail term of up to 5 years upon conviction.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali convicted him as charged and sentenced him to a fine of RM10,000 or, in default, one week’s imprisonment. He was also referred to the Immigration Department.
The teenage boy was charged with dealing with a gambling machine at a building in Kampung Rampangi at about 3.20pm on June 7.
According to the brief facts of the case, a police team raided the premises and detained the accused, who was suspected of being involved in online gambling activity.
The police also seized a mobile phone that was found on the accused, and an expert later confirmed that the phone was used as a tool for online gambling activity.
Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted the case, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
