“At 9.20pm, the teenager’s body was found by the public who were also searching for the body at Sungai Medamit, close to where the first victim (uncle) was found.

“Search and rescue (SAR) personnel retrieved the body and handed it over to the police for further action,” said the report.

Yesterday, Bomba received a call about the incident and deployed firefighters from the Limbang station.

It was reported that 62-year-old Atin Isik and his nephew, Joence Jordisone Jamit, went to set up fish traps at around 1pm on Feb 15.

The following day (Feb 16), at 11.24am, both uncle and nephew still did not return, prompting a search which led to the discovery of Atin’s body by the riverbank close to Kampung Pulau Brunei.

However, Joence’s body was not found, and an operation was mounted to locate him. The rescue team conducted a thorough search within a 2-kilometre radius, covering both land and river.

By 5.30pm, the rescue team reconvened at the staging point to receive a briefing from the head of operations.

At 6pm, the teenager had yet to be found, but the SAR operation had to be postponed due to the fading daylight. — DayakDaily
