KANOWIT, Oct 25: The 16th edition of the powerboat race organised by the Kanowit District Council starting today has attracted 164 teams across the state including Brunei.
The 10-day event in conjunction with the 16th Kanowit Festival, will see participants testing their high-powered machines along the Batang Rajang with a total of RM35,000 in cash prizes up for grabs.
There are seven categories on offer in this year’s edition, namely the 5kk longboat, 18kk longboat, 18kk Tunnel Boat, 30kk (2-piston) Tunnel Boat, 30kk (3-piston) Tunnel Boat, 50kk Tunnel Boat and SST60 Tunnel Boat.
“The event would serve as a platform to look for a young talent among Sarawakian in the powerboat race, and at the same time promoting unity in state,” the organisers said in a statement.
The public are invited to celebrate the 10-day Kanowit Festival, while experiencing the race which from Oct 25 till Nov 3.
The organisers also advised the public to exercise safety and discipline in order to keep the event safe and clean for everyone. — DayakDaily
