KUCHING, Aug 31: More than 160 cyclists took part in ‘Program Kayuhan Santai Merdeka 2022’ in Satok constituency to commemorate the day and instil a sense of patriotism.

According to a statement, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who officiated at the event today, said the cycling programme was held to commemorate National Day.

“This cycling programme is to remember National Day. We are celebrating that today along with other Malaysians to express our love to the country.

“We, Sarawakians and Malaysians, are proud to be united in one nation, and we will continue to be with Malaysia,” he told reporters today on the sidelines of the programme at Kompleks Sukan Satok, Padang SLPAS here.

The programme was jointly organised by Kelab Sukan Komuniti (KSK) Satok and Group Basikal Lejen Kampung Nombor.

The participants cycled 5km, passing through Jalan Muhibbah, Jalan Patingan, Jalan Dagok, Jalan Muda Hashim, Jalan Haji Mataim, and Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol.

Meanwhile, Group Basikal Lejen Kampung Nombor spokesperson Shamsuri Osman told reporters that the programme was well received by the locals.

He revealed that due to overwhelming response, registration had to be closed earlier than scheduled as the number of participants had exceeded the target.

He added besides the 5km bicycle ride, a side event in the form of a push bike competition for children aged below six-years-old was also held.

“We are very pleased to see participants of all ages taking part in this programme and we hope that we can organise this programme on a bigger scale next year,” he said. — DayakDaily
