SIMUNJAN, Aug 1: Water supply recovery efforts in Simunjan are gaining pace, with 16 water tanks now deployed to support residents, while repair works on a leaking pipe along Jalan Gedong–Simunjan are underway.
The pipe repair works are expected to be completed later today, allowing treated water from the Serian Water Treatment Plant (LRA) to resume continuous distribution to affected areas.
According to Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris’ official Facebook post, the water tanks were borrowed by the Samarahan Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) from JBALB Kuching to assist residents affected by the disruption.
Awla said the Simunjan Water Treatment Plant (LRA) has been unable to operate fully since July 28 after the water level at its intake point dropped to a critical level.
He said water supply to Simunjan has since relied entirely on the Serian Water Treatment Plant, which channels water through the pipeline at the Gedong Booster Pump Station.
However, a pipe leak occurred along Jalan Gedong–Simunjan on July 31 due to excavation and drain-clearing works carried out by a contractor, which affected water distribution in the area.
He said repair work is currently ongoing and is expected to be completed by late this afternoon.
Once completed, water supply from LRA Serian is expected to resume continuously, helping to restore supply to affected residents.
Meanwhile, demand for water deliveries via tanker trucks remains high as authorities continue efforts to support communities affected by the disruption.
JBALB Samarahan is also preparing centralised water tanks at several strategic locations to provide residents with easier access to water supply.
In areas still affected, water deliveries are being carried out while repair work on the pipeline is being completed.
JBALB said it remains committed to resolving the disruption and ensuring water supply in Simunjan returns to normal as soon as possible.
The department also thanked residents for their patience and cooperation throughout the disruption. — DayakDaily
