SIMUNJAN, May 7: The Sarawak government has reiterated its commitment to prioritising issues related to land acquisition and boundary matters to ensure the proposed upgrading of Jalan Gedong–Simunjan (Section B) into a four-lane dual carriageway, with a project cost of RM226.7 million, progresses smoothly and is completed according to schedule in December 2028.

In line with this commitment, a dialogue session was held at the Simunjan District Office to discuss land-related matters involving the project area.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the session was chaired by the Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris and was attended by representatives from the Land and Survey Department and Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak as the implementing agency, along with the contractor and affected residents.

Awla said the session was crucial to ensure that all issues related to land acquisition and boundary alignment could be resolved in an orderly manner, while also safeguarding the interests and welfare of the people.

“The government is always committed to ensuring that development projects are implemented smoothly without neglecting the welfare and rights of the affected residents,” he said after chairing the session today.

He added that the project is expected to bring significant benefits to the local community, particularly in improving connectivity through a safer and more efficient road network.

“This project will not only enhance accessibility for residents, but also serve as a catalyst for economic and social development in the Simunjan area,” he said.

Discussions during the session also focused on land acquisition processes, coordination of project implementation, and measures to ensure construction works remain on schedule.

The upgrading of Jalan Gedong–Simunjan (Section B) is a design-and-build project involving the construction of a 5.88-kilometre new alignment built to JKR R3 standards, featuring a four-lane dual carriageway.

The project also includes the construction of two reinforced concrete bridges crossing Sungai Simunjan and Sungai Ngeli, drainage systems, street lighting, traffic management works, as well as utility relocation and protection.

Implemented by the JKR Sarawak, the project is scheduled to run for 36 months from Dec 22, 2025 to Dec 21, 2028.

During the dialogue session, residents were given the opportunity to raise their views, concerns, and suggestions on land-related matters to facilitate a mutually agreed resolution.

Also present were Simunjan District Officer Sanuyah Mohamad, as well as representatives from Kampung Sungai Jong, Kampung Tebuan Iban, Kampung Mengeli, and Kampung Sekendu. — DayakDaily
