15 Saberkas branches receive grants totalling RM189,000

MIRI, June 11:  A total of 15 Saberkas (Sarawak United National Youth Organisation) branches in the Northen Region receive grants amounting at RM189,000 today.

The grants were presented by Saberkas president Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also Youth, Sport and Entreprenuer Development Minister in a high-tea held with leaders and members of 17 Saberkas branches here.

Karim in his opening remarks disclosed that Saberkas would continue to be a platform that groomed future leaders of Sarawak.

“Saberkas is more about empowering youths via various programmes, approaches, visions and missions,” he pointed out.

He said Saberkas membership is not inclusive to one political party  but open to all regardless of their political backgrounds.

“Saberkas ia a universal youth movement that is open to all and not just confine to one particular race.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew cum Saberkas Piasau chairman, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entreprenuer Development Dr Ripin Lamat cum Lambir Saberkas chairman, Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni and Saberkas Sarawak secretary-general Safiee Ahmad.

Established in 1972, Saberkas, the largest organisation in the Sarawak currently has a total membership of 48,444 with 78 branches statewide. — DayakDaily
