KUCHING, Nov 10: A recent air survey operation conducted by Sarawak Forestry Department yield another success in combating illegal logging activities.
Based on information from its Continue Monitoring and Surveillance (COMOS), a team from Forest and Geospatial Technology division then conducted air survey operations on Nov 7 in Lawas and discovered logging activities being conducted outside the licensed area in Trusan.
“Upon physical inspection, we discovered 140 logs without Forest Department tax marks and LPI white tags. We also found two bulldozers, one excavator and a 29-year-old male driver.
The total estimated value of items seized including 140 logs (RM16,000) and the 3 heavy machineries (105,000) was RM121,000.
“All the logs and machines were seized and a suspect was detained under the Forest Ordinance 2015 for further investigation,” the statement added. — DayakDaily
