KUCHING, Non 10: Aspirasi president Lina Soo today urged Sarawak DAP chief and Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen to raise a private member’s bill in the Parliament to set up a Special Select Committee to oversee the management of oil and gas resources by Petronas.

This said Soo, must be done following Chong’s failed attempt to table a motion at the DUN sitting yesterday, to appoint a Special Select Committee to oversee the management of oil and gas resources by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

“Even though YB Chong is now a fourth-term MP and has never asked for a special select committee to monitor Petronas, it is ‘better late than never’ to do it now,” Soo said in a statement issued here today

She also urged Chong to continue fighting for 20 per cent oil royalty and 50 per cent of taxes sourced from Sarawak to show his determination to fight for Sarawak’s oil and gas resources.

“Beg, even if you have to,” Soo asserted.

She also asked Chong why, as a Sarawak MP since 2004, he (Chong) did not object to the enactment of Territorial Sea Act in 2012 which reduced our Sarawak continental shelf from 12 nautical miles to three nautical miles.

“Along with his political masters in Parliament, YB Chong had endorsed the passing of the Territorial Sea Act to rob Sarawak of our Continental Shelf which has altered our national boundary,” Soo said.

She also wanted Chong to answer for his failure as our Sarawak MP to protect its rights over its oil and gas resources managed by Petronas, and failure to protect its territorial integrity in ceding our Continental Shelf to federal government.

“Petroleum resources and territorial boundaries are matters at the heart of Sarawak sovereignty. YB Chong cannot pick and choose the issues he wants to fight at state level and take different stand, if any, at federal level. He cannot take a different stance every time he has a different audience at a different avenue. Where is the consistency?,” asked Soo. — DayakDaily
