14-day MCO in Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau starting Jan 16

Sibu to be placed under MCO from Jan 16-29.

KUCHING, Jan 14: Sibu including Kanowit and Selangau will be placed under Movement Control Order (MCO) for two weeks beginning midnight Saturday (Jan 16).

The second phase of the MCO to be enforced throughout Sibu division is to stem soaring numbers of Covid-19 infections in the division over the past week.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) announced this in a statement today, emphasised that the MCO would be in effect for two weeks and will kick off at 12.01am tomorrow until 11.59pm of Jan 29.

This drastic measure was taken after Pasai Cluster in Sibu recorded the biggest jump in new cases over the past week with triple digit cases to become the biggest cluster with 462 cases to date.

Another 157 positive cases were added to the cluster today.

The standard operating procedures (SOP) for the MCO will be released tomorrow (Jan 15).

SDMC added that Sarikei will maintain under Conditional MCO.— DayakDaily
