SAR operation activated to locate man swept away by Sarawak River current

The rescued woman victim was rushed to the hospital

KUCHING, Jan 14: A 27-year old woman was rescued while the search for a man continues after both victims were swept away by the Sungai Sarawak’s river current, this afternoon.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation center in a statement today said they received a report regarding the incident at 12.57 pm from members of the public after they saw the two victims being swept by the river current, nearby Kubah Ria Food Court.

“Operation commander arrived at the location reported that one of the victims, a woman, was rescued by the members of the public, and the other victim, who is a man, was swept away by the river current,” it said.

Firefighters then conducted a search operation along Sungai Sarawak and the nearby riverbank using boats.

At the time of writing, the victim is yet to be located and the search operation is ongoing.

The search operation involves eight firefighters from Petra Jaya fire station led by PBK II Awang Affendi and PKPgB Azaharul, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and members of the public. – DayakDaily.
