SERIAN, Jan 12: The upgrading works for Phase I of the Padawan Road project, involving a 14.9-kilometre stretch from Tapah to Teng Bekap, are currently four per cent ahead of schedule.
Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the progress could have been even more encouraging if not for persistent bad weather.
“There is no problem with the upgrading works of the road project, except for the bad weather that we are facing, which is greatly affecting the construction work.
“However, I am happy because at the moment, it is four per cent ahead of schedule. It could have progressed faster if not for the bad weather,” said Sagah, who is also Tarat assemblyman, when speaking to reporters today during a visit to SMK Tun Abdul Razak.
The 14.9-kilometre road upgrading project was initiated in 2018 by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
However, the project did not take off until it was undertaken by a new contractor on Feb 16, 2024, following the termination of the previous contractor.
In October last year, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas also visited the project site and expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the project is expected to be completed by February 2027.
Once completed, the project is expected to benefit about 6,000 residents from Kampung Mundai, Kampung Simpok, Kampung Peraya, Kampung Stabut, Kampung Krian, Kampung Sira and Teng Bekap. — DayakDaily
