13 people connected to Bintangor hawker centre infected with Covid-19, gives rise to new cluster

KUCHING, July 14: A Covid-19 outbreak at a hawker centre in Bintangor has infected 13 people, thus triggering the Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster in Meradong today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that a community cluster has been detected at the Bintangor hawker centre located at Jalan Teo Kui Ngo in Meradong.

A total of 53 individuals have been screened whereby 16 have tested negative while 24 are still awaiting lab test results.

All positive cases have been admitted to the Sarikei Hospital and Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Sarikei for treatment and isolation.

The Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster is one of the three new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak today with the other two clusters identified in Bau dubbed the Duyoh Cluster with 22 positive cases, and one in Kuching dubbed the Sentosa 2 Cluster with 52 cases so far.

The State Health Department has also declared the end of five clusters in Sarawak namely the Emperan Cluster in Selangau, Jalan Jambusan-Sunchar Cluster in Bau, Ijus Penyelayan Cluster in Miri as well as the Jalan Daya and Jalan Keruing Cluster, both in Kuching, after no new cases were reported in the last 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak has decreased to 98, out of which 10 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections today with 38 more cases.

They are the newly declared Sentosa 2 Cluster in Kuching which added 16 more cases, Tembok Cluster in Miri (8 cases), Sungai Sengkabang Cluster in Subis (4 cases), the new Jalan Teo Kui Ngo Cluster in Meradong (3 cases), Industry 121 Kuala Baram Cluster in Miri (2 cases), while Lunyim Cluster in Telang Usan, Nanga Tada Cluster in Kanowit, Pagar Tebedu Cluster in Tebedu, Kampung Kendaie Cluster in Lundu and new Duyoh Cluster in Bau has one case each. — DayakDaily
