67.9 pct of 552 Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today registered in Kuching and Serian

KUCHING, Aug 4: Kuching and Serian together have registered 375 or 67.9 per cent of the 552 Covid-19 cases detected in Sarawak today.

According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching recorded 270 new cases, followed by Serian with 105.


Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Sri Aman (45), Samarahan (28), Subis (17), Simunjan (17), Lundu (15) and Sibu (15).

The remaining districts with new infections included Kabong (7), Bau (7), Bintulu (6), Julau (5), Tatau (3), Dalat (3), Miri (2), Kanowit (2), Mukah (1), Kapit (1), Sarikei (1), Selangau (1) and Beluru (1).

With another 552 cases today, SDMC said the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 78,763.

“Out of the 552 patients, 305 were detected following close contact screenings where 23 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 117 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where none of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“There were 33 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 94 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and three Import-B cases who came from Kuala Lumpur and Kedah,” it said in its statement on the Covid-19 situation update in Sarawak today.

Zero deaths were reported today, as the Covid-19 death toll remains unchanged at 464.

Meanwhile, 189 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, with 6,6441 active cases in isolation or treatment.

Moving on to Covid-19 zones, Sarawak has to-date 18 red, eight orange, nine yellow and five green zones. Lubok Antu, Matu, Marudi, Sebauh and Limbang are the only safe zones as of today. ā€” DayakDaily
