KUCHING, Nov 20: Twelve firefighters from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) are currently building new homes for three hardcore poor families in Tulai, Bintangor.
Sibu Zone 4 fire chief Misran Bisara said Mary Itah, 45, Brandon Agol, 49, and Bata Untol, 70, are the recipients under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) Urban Poverty Eradication programme for those under the Welfare Departmentās e-Kasih system.
āTwelve of our men from Sibu, Sungai Merah, Kanowit and Bintangor stations are doing this on voluntarily basis through āgotong-royongā.
āThis is the least that we can do for the recipients, to show our concern and willingness to help those during their difficult times,ā Misran said.
Each house will cost about RM40,000, and the work to build them is being done simultaneously starting Oct 30. Depending on the weather condition, it is expected to complete in two monthsā time.
Each house will cover an area of 20 feet x 30 feet, with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen area, a bathroom and a toilet.
Misran added that Bomba central zone was given five projects to repair and rebuild houses under NBOS this year.
Last week, Salleh Amban from Bintangor received his newly repaired house in a simple but meaningful ceremony by Bomba. Among the repairs made were to the kitchen flooring, windows, doors, painting, roofing and wiring.
Meanwhile, Bomba will handover another newly repaired house to Sidak Sapiāie in Kanowit this Friday. ā DayakDaily
