12 detained in Miri for driving under influence of alcohol

MIRI, April 18: Twelve people were detained during Operation Mabuk held on Saturday (April 16) night until Sunday (April 17) morning along Jalan Miri-Bintulu.

All 12 offenders aged from 24 to 64 were detained for driving under the influence of alcohol.


During the five-hour operation which kicked off at 11.30pm, a total of 32 summonses for various traffic offences were issued.

Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said, a total of 80 vehicles were inspected during the operation.

The offending motorists will be investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM6,000, or a jail term not exceeding six months, upon conviction.

“We will carry out this operation continuously to ensure that drivers are not on the road after drinking alcohol,” said Alexson. — DayakDaily
