KUCHING, May 14: A total of 11,900 Sumbangsih Gawai 2026 food packs were distributed to 11 security and enforcement agencies in conjunction with Gawai Dayak, as part of Sarawak’s annual festive appreciation programme for frontline personnel.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative reflects the State government’s inclusive approach in recognising Gawai Dayak alongside Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year as Sarawak’s main festivals.

“In Sarawak, we have three main festivals — Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Gawai Dayak.

“Usually Sumbangsih is given during Hari Raya, but this year it has been extended to Chinese New Year and Gawai Dayak as well,” he said at the Sumbangsih Gawai 2026 presentation ceremony held at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Complex here today.

He said the programme recognises the continuous sacrifice of uniformed personnel who remain on duty during festive periods to ensure public safety and harmony.

He also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Women and Family Department for preparing the festive packages, which include kolok mee – as suggested by his late wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Meanwhile, Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the Sumbangsih programme has been implemented for 36 years since the establishment of the department.

She said the initiative reflects the government’s appreciation for security and enforcement personnel who serve during festive seasons regardless of race and religion.

Fatimah said the Gawai 2026 distribution involved 11 agencies, which collectively received 11,900 food packs.

The agencies involved were the Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police, Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Customs Department, Immigration Department, Road Transport Department, Prison Department, Civil Defence Force, RELA and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit.

Each Sumbangsih pack contains six items, comprising retort meals, kuih deram, cornflakes snack, kolok mee, 3-in-1 coffee and tea. — DayakDaily
