MIRI, Aug 19: A longhouse fire in Suai resulted in 119 people losing their homes and belongings after the blaze razed their home to the ground on Friday afternoon.
According to a Sarawak Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) spokesperson, the 22-door Rumah Ningkan in Lembong Suai, occupied by 119 people was completely destroyed in the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the fire that destroyed the victims’ home for the last 31 years.
A team of Batu Niah firefighters and Batu Niah volunteers firefighters were rushed to the scene upon receiving a distress call on the incident at 1.45pm.
The fire was brought under control at 2.30pm.
The longhouse has been occupied by the villagers since 1992. — DayakDaily
