KUCHING, Apr 18: A total of 11 people from Kota Samarahan will be charged in court for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Kota Samarahan District Chief Police, DSP Lee Chong Cherng said the 11 suspects were arrested in Taman Unigarden and Taman Merdang Gayam on Thursday and will be charged under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases act 2020.

According to Lee, a team of police had gone to Taman Unigarden at 5.40 pm after a group of six suspects, aged between 19 to 23 years old, were reported to be gathering at the park. The suspects were later all arrested by the police and brought to the police station for investigation.

The second arrest was made at Taman Merdang Gayam at 6.10 pm when the police saw five suspects aged between 13 to 34 years old gathering together as well at a park. The suspects were arrested after failing to provide a reason for the purpose of their gathering.

Lee urged the public to obey the rules during the MCO in the hopes that the COVID-19 pandemic can be controlled by breaking the chain of transmission. —DayakDaily
