11 fined RM25,000 for breaching physical distancing rules at Jalan Song cafe

Police caught 10 people in a cafe at Jalan Song without physical distancing.

KUCHING, Sept 23: Several individuals including the owner of a cafe at Jalan Song here were compounded a total of RM25,000 for breaching physical distancing rules.

Kuching District Police Chief Ahsmon Bajah, in a statement today, revealed that a team of police officers was dispatched to check on the premises at 8.30pm last night (Sept 22) following a tip-off.

Upon inspection, the 12-member team led by ASP Will Jihem found 10 individuals in the premises had failed to observe physical distancing measures put in place to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.


The offenders aged between 35 and 53-years-old were fined RM1,500 each while the owner of the cafe was slapped with a RM10,000 fine.

The compounds were issued for offenses under Regulation 17(1) and 17 (2) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021.

The police reminded the public to continue to be vigilant against Covid-19 and adhere to all standard operating procedures (SOP).— DayakDaily
