100MWac solar farm deal between Zecon, Sarawak Energy among 12 collaborations at IDECS 2025

KUCHING, Oct 22: A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Energy for the development of a 100MWac large-scale solar farm at Kota Petra Green Technology Park is among 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) and strategic collaborations exchanged during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS) 2025 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today, witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Under the PPA, Zecon Renewables will design, construct, own, operate and maintain the solar facility, with electricity sold to Syarikat SESCO Berhad over a 30-year period beginning December 2027.

The PPA was signed by Zecon managing director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad and general manager Brandon Goh, while Sarawak Energy was represented by senior vice president of Strategy and Corporate Development Dr Chen Shiun and manager of Legal and Compliance Sharifah Zaaimah Wan Ismail Edruce.

The series of collaborations inked at IDECS 2025 further reinforced Sarawak’s growing leadership in digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), green technology and sustainable development, aligning with the State’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

The first MoA was signed between Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC) and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, represented by SDEC chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Sudarnoto Osman, Huawei Enterprise Asia Pacific Region president Fan Wen, and Huawei Malaysia Sarawak Business Department vice president Wan Wei, to develop a Hybrid Cloud Platform for data and AI solutions.

SDEC also entered into a First Supplemental Memorandum of Understanding (SMoU) with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin) and Itco Niaga Sdn Bhd to plan for the Indonesia Cable Express 2 project, represented by Telin CEO Budi Satria Dharma Purba and Itco managing director Anita Aqeela Hiong.

Additionally, SDEC and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) formalised an MoU to strengthen Sarawak’s digital economy in line with national priorities, focusing on digital talent development, SME digitalisation, Malaysia Digital (MD) status promotion, AI ecosystem growth and creative industry advancement. MDEC was represented by its senior vice president of Corporate Affairs, Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit.

Another collaboration saw Bioeconomy Corporation Sdn Bhd and BioVerde Technologies Sdn Bhd join forces to commercialise innovation, finance sustainable ventures and connect research and talent with industry to strengthen Malaysia’s bioeconomy ecosystem. The MoU was signed by Bioeconomy Corporation CEO Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak and BioVerde Technologies CEO Hazwan Razak.

At the same time, Insights Analytics Berhad (IAB) inked two MoUs at IDECS 2025. The first, with Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre Sdn Bhd (SAIC), represented by CEO Dr Patrick Then, aims to advance AI and Digital Twin solutions, while the second with 51WORLD, represented by Global Sales director Michael Tang and executive director Greta Pu, focuses on exploring market opportunities in the same field. IAB was represented by managing director Frank Wee.

Furthermore, a Memorandum of Strategic Collaboration between ZTE (Malaysia) Corporation Sdn Bhd and SACOFA Sdn Bhd aims to strengthen next-generation network modernisation and AI empowerment in Sarawak. ZTE was represented by president of ZTE Asia and CIS Region Mei Zhonghua and managing director Steven Ge, while SACOFA was represented by its managing director Dato Seri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Abdul Taib.

Meanwhile, Teraju, Bank Rakyat and Agrobank formalised a MoA to launch the Bumiputera Sarawak-Sabah Scale-Up Fund, a targeted financing initiative supporting micro enterprises and sole proprietors in both states. The signatories were Teraju CEO Junady Nawawi and senior director Mohd Najib Jaafar, as well as Bank Rakyat CEO Ahmad Ariff Abu Bakar, who also serves as Agrobank’s chief development officer.

In another development, Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS) and LatConnect60 Ltd (LC60) signed an MoU to establish a strategic collaboration to advance remote sensing and Earth observation capabilities in Sarawak through joint initiatives in data processing and pilot projects utilising satellite technologies to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency across sectors. SAINS was represented by its CEO Busiai Seman, while LatConnect60 was represented by CEO Venkat Pillay and advisor Dato’ Anusha Santhirasthipam.

Subsequently, TM One and Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad (BPHB) entered into an MoU to establish an AI Chip Integration Centre focusing on AI chip integration, product commercialisation and industry competitiveness. TM One was represented by executive vice president Shanti Jusnita Johari and vice president of State Business Meor Shahril Anuar, while BPHB was represented by its president and group chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Ruslan Abdul Ghani and vice president of Group Strategy and Growth Baharin Osman.

In the semiconductor sector, SMD Semiconductor Sdn Bhd and Rebellions Inc. signed an MoU to establish a strategic and sovereign AI hardware innovation platform, strengthening Sarawak’s semiconductor ecosystem and enabling the commercialisation of next-generation AI technologies. The MoU was signed by SMD chairman Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar and chief executive officer (CEO) Shariman Jamil, as well as Rebellions Inc. chief financial officer (CFO) Sungkyue Shin.

The collaborations showcased at IDECS 2025 demonstrate Sarawak’s commitment to building a digitally empowered, innovation-driven and sustainable economy, positioning the State as a regional leader in green growth and digital excellence. — DayakDaily
