KUCHING, August 15: A technician was sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment with two strokes of the rotan for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a weapon.

Sessions Court Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad said the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt after a full trial and found Amali Taufiq Saini from Taman Pelita Jaya guilty as charged.

The accused’s counsel, Osman Ibrahim applied for a stay of execution as he wanted to appeal the said decision in the High Court. Dayang Ellyn allowed the stay of execution on the condition of a cash bail of RM8,000 deposited with the Court and for the accused to report to the nearest police station once a fortnight.

Amali was charged with having hurt Jackson Peter Perry’s right eye with a drinking glass at about 1.40am on May 28, 2017, at a club in Jalan Padungan.

The victim subsequently lost vision in his right eye.

The accused was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of twenty years, and also liable to fine or whipping.
