KUCHING, July 23: Ten hook line sets have been deployed in Batang Igan as part of a crocodile population removal (culling) operation to reduce the risk of human-crocodile conflicts and enhance public safety.
The operation, conducted by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Regional Office Sibu, began on July 21 and will continue until Aug 2, 2026.
According to a TVS report, SFC said the hook line sets have been strategically installed along the stretch from the mouth of Sungai Lubuk Kabang to SK Sungai Pinang following field assessments.
“All installed hook line sets are currently active and will be monitored regularly throughout the operation period to ensure the effectiveness of efforts to reduce the crocodile population in the area,” the corporation said in a statement.
SFC said the operation is part of its ongoing efforts to improve public safety by minimising the risk of human-crocodile conflict in Batang Igan.
It added that the culling exercise is a proactive measure targeting high-risk areas identified through field assessments. — DayakDaily
