KUCHING, Nov 6: Sarawak is tapping international expertise through strategic collaboration with the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) to strengthen the State’s integrity and governance standards in line with global benchmarks.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya said the collaboration would strengthen integrity practices and bring the State’s governance standards in line with international benchmarks.

He said the initiative reflected the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring that the State’s development progress was matched by strong accountability, effective integrity practices and good governance.

“We want to ensure that the standards implemented in Sarawak are aligned with international standards,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Regional Governance Leadership Programme 2026 on Thursday (Nov 5).

Juanda stressed that Sarawak’s aspirations went beyond achieving development milestones, with equal importance placed on cultivating a strong culture of integrity across all organisations.

He cautioned that international recognition should not remain merely an achievement on paper, but must translate into consistent integrity practices at every level.

He urged all parties to uphold accountability, respect the rule of law and maintain a zero-tolerance stance on corruption in carrying out their responsibilities.

Juanda also encouraged participants to translate the knowledge and experience gained into practical improvements in professionalism and integrity within their respective organisations.

The programme drew 208 participants and covered key areas including ethical leadership, corruption prevention, accountability and the use of technology to strengthen governance.

Also present were Sarawak Integrity and Ombudsman Unit (UNIONS) director Wan Mohamad Wan Drahman, Sarawak Centre of Performance Excellence (SCOPE) chief executive officer Joseph Lim Jit Sek, and IACA Head of the Department of Training and Capacity Development Dr Yoojin Choi. — DayakDaily
